XPilot beta .49 in Ubuntu 23.04

I know that Ubuntu 23.04 isn’t currently supported - but I would still like to see what it takes to try to get xPilot to run without having to reinstall my OS and start over.

With that said, xPilot opens just fine, and I’m able to assign a microphone and speaker device without any issues in settings. However, transmit and receive does not work (I’ve also tried the dot commands to enable rx/tx with no luck)

Running the xPilot appimage from the CLI yields:

Again, the xPilot GUI runs just fine, and the audio devices do show up in settings even though the CLI output reports “No audio device detected”.

Any thoughts or ideas on things I could try to get xPilot running on this machine?

I am using it on Ubuntu 23.04. I am not using the AppImage but that shouldn’t make a difference.

@1068951 thanks for responding. Can you elaborate more on how you have it running on 23.04? I wasn’t aware there was an option to avoid using the appimage. Did you compile it by yourself? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Update: It works!

Came out to be a pretty silly issue. The problem is that the “Auto-tune recommended frequencies” in the ATC window (in x-plane, not xPilot) kept changing my tuned frequency, so there was nobody to listen to or to return my calls. I didn’t realize that moments after tuning to a frequency, it was being changed. After unchecking that option, I was able to tune into the appropriate frequencies and both transmit and receive! On top of that, I found a nice audio panel in Air Manager that allows for quick and easy com1/com2 switching without the need for dot commands. Very happy!

I still have one issue remaining- xPlane hangs while trying to close. This is definitely xPilot related, as removing the plugin fixes the issue. I’ve tried disconnecting and shutting down xPilot before trying to shut down xPlane, but it will still change and eventually crash my system.

Oh, the dreaded X-Plane “Auto-tune frequencies” ! I am happy that you got that sorted.

Re non-AppImage: When downloading the .zip (under Assets on a release Releases · xpilot-project/xpilot · GitHub), you’ll get the client app and the plugin non-packaged and can run/symlink it directly. For me that’s easier to manage than AppImages.

I am thankful that Justin added that because it facilitates testing and having multiple versions available.

Yeah. I also found out that nothing works at all until I open the nearby ATC window to select a frequency. After that, all is working well.

As far as hanging on shutdown, I’m on NVidia and Zink is disabled for NVidia currently - so the issue shouldn’t be from that. I’m attaching a couple of logs. I don’t really see anything overly obvious - hopefully someone else might.
