What is an spt number?

Hi all,

I received an ACARS message with the remarks “advise with spt number and atis”

No luck in google.

Thanks in advance.

Probably “Spot Number” - might help to know which airport you were at.

That could be it. I was at KLAS.

I don’t fly too often so I avoid gates by flying into/out of the FBO’s to make taxis easier.

As long as I’m not missing anything glaringly obvious I’ll be satisfied :+1:

Yeah, then they probably meant “spot number”. VATUSA does not provide topdown services for ramps that are not controlled by the FAA or a contractor of theirs and many of the larger airports where this is the case will have predefined points where aircraft are handed over from ramp control to ground control, KLAS is such an example.

The official FAA charts unfortunately don’t show these spots, but other providers such as Jeppesen do:

(here, these are the little boxes with the numbers, e.g. in the bottom right spots 9 and 10)

In the real world, they will be marked on the ground as well, so if you have an accurate enough scenery you can also see them there:

So what you would do on VATSIM is push back on own discretion, then taxi to one of these spots, and when there, call ground control for taxi clearance, e.g. “Las Vegas Ground, Spirit Wings 980, spot 17 with Z, request taxi”.

These ACARS messages sent out by vNAS are standardized and most likely don’t take into account where on the airport you are parked, so it won’t know if there won’t be any spot for you to report.

That’s great to know, thanks!

I mean, really?? Some bright spark decided that the word “spot” had to be converted to an opaque three-letter acronym? To what purpose? Obfuscation? I despair.
