VPilot on Linux connection Failure "Ensure supported simulator is running"

I am trying to get VPilot to work on my Linux machine. I have installed Microsoft Flight Simulator through Steam. Steam uses Proton to emulate a Windows machine. I have managed to install VPilot [version 3.7.0]. It starts correctly, but it is not able to find the running simulator (see attached picture).
I have tried the following:

  • Edit the registry keys, as discussed in this post. None of the registry keys were originally set. I had to create them on my own.

When entering the .debug command in VPilot the result looks as follows

[21:01:14.036] vPilot version 3.7.0
[21:01:14.342] Simulator connection failed.
[21:01:18.940] Attempting simulator connection...
[21:01:19.343] Simulator connection failed.
[21:01:23.940] Attempting simulator connection...
[21:01:24.342] Simulator connection failed.
[21:01:28.940] Attempting simulator connection...
...

The log file in the VPilot appdata folder looks as follows:

2024-01-18 20:38:54.982 +01:00 [INF] vPilot version 3.7.0 starting up
2024-01-18 20:38:55.038 +01:00 [INF] Running in "Standalone" mode
2024-01-18 20:38:57.899 +01:00 [INF] Downloaded 1 servers
2024-01-18 20:38:58.161 +01:00 [INF] Validating "Msfs"

A note: Initially, to get VPilot to run I had to manually install NLog.dll. I used the official NuGet package for this

Thank you for your response
