That’s pretty much how the real system works (at least in Europe), entering an unknown designator in item 18 drops an error. Just tried with FLTTYP/M, it results in a SYN104 error.
Wasn’t aware of STAYINFO getting dropped, seen it before, but those might have been vPilot FPLs. This one indeed needs to STAY1 ( )
Is it possible that one of the issues is that IRL, RMK/ is usually the last thing to add to Item 18 so it makes sense to cut off after that, while on VATSIM, the available boxes lack some of the things we may need to add in Item 18, such as DEP/, DEST/, TYP/, STS/ STAYINFO/, … and the last entry box already starts with the RMK/ separator?
STS should work on the new version, but will be placed on remarks. FLTTYP will probably work as well (I’ll test it later), but also remain on the remarks for now. We don’t have a place for those fields right now, and the new version didn’t really add any, but I’ll keep this up as an improvement moving forward.
Yes, that’s indeed a problem. I already plan to add some of the missing fields in the future, but for now we need to deal with them living in the RMK/ section.
One issue that we need to figure out is regarding the limitation of Field 18, where you can’t have / and -. Right now, per CoC A18, streamers can add a url to their stream on the RMK/ section. We would need to have an alternative to allow that in order to enforce this - and it’s something that’s been requested recently since that breaks some parsers on ATC clients
Of course, this would indeed require the ability to use / and - first, and might involve adding a few more checks to be done by the FPL website to make sure nothing has been forgotten (i.e. filed certain EQPT without related PBN, NAV and/or SUR entries), but rather than add extra fields, why not simplify things by making Field 18 entirely open text entry, as IRL?
I’m well aware of how it works in Europe I’m just saying the VATSIM parser was not built to parse ADEXP IFPL messages, so I defaulted to the old FPL format instead. And I’m not saying it should work in real life, obviously
And the issue is that everything gets dropped. Anything that follows the XXX/yyyyy notation goes away, which is a problem since there is no place else to put them, and we cannot use ADEXP without line delimiters, hence my questions (and the ticket I opened). Hope that’s clearer now
Perhaps another method of communication is required. It’s apparent that very few actually read that. For such a large change, an email or something probably would have reached the masses better than a niche blog.
You can’t win them all. I reckon 95% of users would ignore an email. What would have notice about this change actually done here? Aside from provide a few impacted members (some of which seem to be significantly impacted by every single positive change the network makes) a bit more air time prior to going live?
Hi, first time here
I fly a lot in Europe, where you get a lot of waypoints and airways for even short flights, so I saved all my flightplans. Now it seems they are all gone, I can’t load them in the new form, not implemented.
Is it planned to reintroduce a LOAD and SAVE button, so that all the planning I have to redo is not wasted?
Or is there a way to access the old flightplans?
Do not worry , I am using different paswords.
Anyway my question would be still, why we can not use username or better mail address that we used to register for vatsim for login if I may ask sir?
And for the remember credentials, well I am not using it. I have set to clear all data on firefox after I close it. And at midnight my router/firewall is flusing all connections from the previous day so trying to start clear web surfing each day. My wife does not like it to login each day to her FB account but I am willing to pay that price for less ads tracking, etc.
But I will copy the CID to notepad so I can do copy paste that way when login.
But still would love to have email or username option for login to watsim web too if possible. Thank you.
By hand
Routing by GRD, if route not available (very often), then Online Flight planner from my flightgear times, checking with skyvector
No Simbrief or other
Since we are changing that part of the website, would it be a good time to reorder the fields in the prefile page to match the order of the ICAO flight plan form and drop the fuel endurance field?
Reordering the fields is already done, it’s a lot closer to the order of the ICAO flight plan form.
Dropping fuel endurance is not possible right now due to other limitations. We’ll address this in the future
Ahh, okay, then this inconvenience of having to always remember or copy/paste your credentials is something you brought upon yourself by deliberate choice, and is not unique to VATSIM. I’m sure after a few logins, you will remember your VATSIM CID … it’s the same length or shorter than a telephone number.
