vPilot 3.10.1, MSFS 2020, Asobo ATR - Tx/Rx become disabled after few minutes

I installed a new version of vPilot today and now I have extremely persistent problem of Tx/Rx getting disabled few minutes into the flight without me doing anything. The problem only occurs on Asobo ATR.

It works normally for a few minutes after loading a flight, but after 5 to 10 minutes Tx and Rx become greyed out and I cannot hear or transmit. vPilot is still connected, I can use text, everything works except for the audio. The audio settings are all good, it’s just that Tx and Rx are disabled. Additional information:

  • Aircraft power, radios, microphones are undoubtedly ON
  • Tried restarting simulator, vPilot, computer multiple times
  • Tried reinstalling vPilot, deleting configuration file, going over configuration process again.
  • I am always running (MSFS, vPilot) as administrator
  • There is nothing wrong with audio setup. When I use xPilot, there are no issues of any kind.
  • The problem seems to occur only on Asobo ATR

After long investigation, I believe I tracked the problem to issues with Asobo ATR. The problem seems to only occur when I use EFB to import flight plan from Simbrief and then use “Set flight plan” button. If I just enter flight plan manually, the problem described above does not occur.

An update on this to those who experience similar problem. I now 100% tracked it down to a bug in Asobo ATR 72. The aircraft battery does not charge even when connected to ground power. After few minutes the battery discharges and radios are lost. There are 2 workarounds:

  1. After loading aircraft, start the engine 2 in H mode OR
  2. If you battery got discharged, enable Developer mode. Then go to Tools → Behaviors → Systems → Show electrical system debug. In the top left, select Debug → Enable components edition. Set battery charge to 100%.
