Hi, I am currently on vacation in Senegal, and my internet isn’t the best (speed of around 5mbps), and I wanted to fly online without sucking all the bandwidth (to not disturb my parents and etc). The only post I found about this was a 2008 post, so I’m not sure there was too much of a change. If you have any information on this, I’d appreciate the help.
I live in rural Canada and have to say that getting 5Mbps is a bit of a rarity here. Sure, they promise “up to” 50Mbps, and good luck with that. All you can do is use the bandwidth you are allowed. Huge areas of this so-called developed country are still on dial-up. Including businesses struggling to compete in a global market skewed against them.
Each ISP will deal out the bandwidth they have available in arcane ways which they will never reveal, and over which you will have absolutely no control. So use whatever tbey give you, knowing that it will be an unfair use if you get a connection while others don’t. And the ISP will choke your bandwidth, citing their “fair use” policy to disguise their own corruptions.
The good news is that Vatsim internet bandwidth requirerments are very low. The data is all text. Of course, if you use MSFS, all bets are off because in some configurations you need huge bandwidth for that sim to work.
Well, I use P3D, so that won’t be an issue, but what about voice comms?
It should not be an issue. Why don’t you just try it? Should there be issues (I don’t expect any to occur) you can still cancel your flight. Bom voo!
I guess it’s worth a shot… I’ll try it on my next flight. If it doesn’t work I can wait to come back from vacation anyway. Thanks!
So, after a few days trying to fly, I came to the conclusion that it disconnects me constantly from the server, but that’s probably the router’s issue, because it actually works smoothly with the model matching and etcs.
