Take to the virtual skies with VATSIM Scandinavia Pilot Training

Virtual pilots seeking to gain their VATSIM pilot ratings in Europe will have the opportunity to do so within Scandinavia with the launch of VATSIM Scandinavia Pilot Training.

As VATSIM’s newest Authorized Training Organization (ATO), VATSIM Scandinavia Pilot Training provides high-quality, completely free pilot training for VATSIM pilots hoping to gain their VATSIM P1 (Private Pilot License) rating.

Gaining ATO approval means that an organization’s training program and personnel meet the standards and requirements set by the VATSIM Pilot Training Department so trainees can be assured that the information and training they receive is correct and of a high standard.

VATSIM Vice President, Pilot Training, Simon Kelsey, said: “I’m delighted to welcome VATSIM Scandinavia Pilot Training to the ATO family.

“We were really impressed with their course and organization, and with an instructing staff that includes a number of real-world airline pilots, I’ve no doubt that trainees will receive unique insights.

“This is the first time that there has been a Scandinavia-based ATO so it’s great to see more options for VATSIM pilots looking to expand their knowledge or learn how to fly their simulator.

“I’m looking forward to working with Jere and the team at VATSIM Scandinavia and I wish them the best of luck as they put the ‘Educate’ into the VATSIM motto - ‘Aviate, Educate, Communicate!’”

About VATSIM Pilot Ratings

VATSIM offers a series of voluntary Pilot Ratings for members wishing to develop their skills, knowledge, and competencies as virtual pilots. The ratings broadly follow the real-world structure and are:

  • Private Pilot Licence (P1)
  • Instrument Rating (P2)
  • Commercial Multi-Engine Licence (P3)
  • Airline Transport Pilot Licence (P4)

Training for the ratings is completely free and is provided by Authorized Training Organizations and third-party organizations that are approved by the VATSIM Pilot Training Department. Ratings are displayed next to a member’s name in “who’s online” clients and the VATSIM data feed and serve as a recognition that the member has achieved a recognized standard of piloting.

About the VATSIM Pilot Training Department

The VATSIM Pilot Training Department (PTD) is a central department of VATSIM which is responsible for improving the knowledge and skills of VATSIM pilots. Our mission is to educate in order to improve the overall levels of skill, knowledge, and competency of VATSIM pilot members.

To achieve this, the PTD has four core functions:

  • We regulate, approve, and oversee the delivery of Pilot Ratings across the network, working with a network of Authorized Training Organizations (ATOs) across the globe
  • We create and provide training and resources for VATSIM and flight simulator pilots
  • We support VATSIM Regions and Divisions in their pilot training and development initiatives
  • We operate VATSIM’s Pilot Feedback System, using the data provided to work with individuals and to guide and monitor the impact of localized and network-wide training initiatives
