Swift keeps telling me my password is invalid

Spent 3 hours Monday trying to get online with FSX. 8 hours Tuesday - finally found somewhere on Swift where I put in my name and VATSIM ID. Today, I try to go online again but keep being told my password is invalid and I can’t find where I entered my name and ID yesterday.

Did the manual not help? Index - swift pilot client Documentation
It is under “Pilot Info”.

I haven’t used swift, so can’t compare it to vPilot, but I can tell you that most people can typically get online using vPilot in 2-3 minutes, assuming they’ve at least breezed through the documentation.

While swift pilot client is a bit more complex and cluttered than vpilot, it still has a very prominently marked connect-button that is - even for me - hard to overlook

Thanks Jonas, I’ll go through this. I was using the Swift set up guide,

Yeah, I used to use vPilot with FS9, But I do miss Sqwarkbox.

Yeah Andreas the Connect button is prominent but didn’t do anything when I clicked on it, I’ve somehow found the page to put my name and password and found that the password was not the one I entered the day before that got me on the network. Slowly getting back into it and managed to file a simple fight plan last night. But now I can’t change my callsign. It’s kinda weird 'cos my old Buffalo Airways callsign keeps coming up. Anyway, Jonas’s link to the docs should help. Thanks everyone for the prompt response.

Yeah Don, I’m a big fan of documentation. I was using the Swift set up guide and kept getting lost in the maze. I used the old version of Swift a few years ago and don’t remember it being hard to set up. Maybe I’m just getting older.

Hi David,

nothing has changed dramatically over the years. We only cleaned up a few functions and improved others. Unfortunately it is not possible to declutter the user interface more, because of how the thing is coded in the background. A complete re-write of the entire client is required.

When swift does not save passwords and similar settings, check that you start swift “as administrator”, this should do the trick. Please note that swiftGUI will write callsigns and settings when closing the program.
The same is true when using FS9: if you run FS9 “as administrator” then swift has to be run “as administrator”, too. Otherwise they won’t be able to talk to each other through FSUIPC and you won’t see the swift session in the multiplayer window of FS9.

From this I assume that you tried changing your callsign on the flightplan page of swiftGUI, right? That’s not how it works: the FPL (flightplan) page will take the callsign that you define on the connect page. It may be possible that the callsign on your FPL page is stuck to your previous flight, when you re-file for a second flight. For these cases there’s this icon with a blue curved arrow next to the callsign on the FPL page. Clicking this will synchronize the callsign to the one that you have defined on the connect page of swiftGUI. Clearer now?

Thanks Andreas, this is really helpful. And thank you for taking the time to explain it so clearly. I shall go and try this now.

We always strive to help, but we are a small team and our preferred place for support is our Discord server (it is easier to work there, including screensharing etc.). But we are also happy to assist on this forum it just may take a bit longer before someone can chime in.

Just joined Discord & logged in but what happens now? I joined two servers and that seems to be it. Nothing else comes up except the same page with all the servers. I don’t get it. What have I done wrong?

Sorry, ignore this post, I just got on Discord by clicking on Andreas link above.
