I am still a dinosaur using FS9. I have been using FSrealWX Lite set to Vatsim weather - which worked well until this week. For unexplained reasons, The Vatsim weather settings won’t send to FS9 - although the NOAA setting works perfectly - if a little slower.
However, this is not the main reason for posting - although if someone knows why Vatsim weather no longer functions with FSrealWX I would be all ears. My main question is regarding the weather client in “Swift” client:
The real weather setting on swift seems to provide me with wind and air pressure information. However, Cloud, precipitation etc is not sent across - hence why I use FSrealWX. Is this normal for Swift, or are there settings I can’t find that are required for cloud and precipitation info?
On Sunday, we performed a change to our infrastructure to improve security of multiple systems. (more technically, forcing HTTPS on all web services)
One of the ones updated was VATSIM’s METAR service. I’d hazard a guess that this old version of FSrealWX isn’t playing well with the new settings.
I unfortunately don’t have a solution for you, but wanted to make sure you knew that may be why.
In terms of the cloud/precip question, I’m not sure on the details. It might be for several reasons - I know Swift targets multiple simulators, and compatibility may be different between sims.
Unfortunately, I think these issues end up being a fact of life when using software released 21 years ago. But hey, at least it’s of drinking age now!
That all makes sense now. At least I don’t have to spend hours reinstalling things!
I get what you say about FS9. Unfortunately my laptop, although new, won’t run FS2020, and the wife won’t let me spend money on a PC just for Flight Sim.
Still, FS9 is still great for me. I enjoy making my own panels, gauges etc which is easier to do on FS9 - and I upgrade my own airports too. Not sure FS2020 can do that - and it means I can do other things other than flying a route - which is my day job anyway.
