The question was, can I still participate in “Fly and See Santa” providing slots are fully booked? However, I understand that I could face delays and diversions.
Yes, but as the event announcement says:
- Pilots are strongly advised to obtain an approved slot prior to departure
- Pilots without a valid Slot are subject to rerouting, diversion, and delay
However, all slots are fully-booked. Which means whoever doesn’t have any slots are subject any of the three. There is only 200 or so slots available? Shouldn’t there be more slots or is this how it’s meant to be?
That’s how it’s meant to be. Slots are calculated to ensure everyone can be accomodated within the proposed route airspace capacity, involved airports departure/arrival rates, etc.
