Is this a new phenomenon (e.g. did everything work before and now suddenly it’s not working, in which case, what changed with your system)?
What AI aircraft/packages have you installed for model matching? I’m used to seeing thousands of aircraft identified with the model matching scan, not just 291.
In order for AI aircraft to be displayed, you need to have them. Otherwise, vPilot can’t show you something you don’t have. Suggest you obtain/purchase AI aircraft if you want to see them.
From the vPilot Tips, Tricks, FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide
vPilot is designed to be a very simple client. It doesn’t come with its own model sets (e.g. payware or freeware AI model sets). It’s designed to get a new pilot up and flying quickly. If you haven’t downloaded freeware, or purchased, Artificial Intelligence (AI) aircraft, all you will see is the default aircraft as specified in Settings > Model Matching.
From the vPilot Documentation section on Model Matching
vPilot inspects your computer’s registry to see which supported flight simulator(s) you have installed. It then scans the configuration files for those simulators to determine where you have AI traffic models installed. It then scans through those folders looking for information about all the installed models. It then compares that list against a known database of model information (which is downloaded from the vPilot web site when you first start vPilot) so that it knows which models can be used to represent other pilots when you fly on VATSIM.
I don’t use FSLTL (yet, though will likely soon!), so hopefully someone with more experience can answer definitively, but I’m nearly 100% sure that the answer would be a resounding yes! I estimate there are well over 120,000 VATSIMmers using FSLTL regularly and I don’t recall hearing complaints.
I’d suggest trying it, getting a baseline of how happy you are with the result, and going from there.
