Practicing Phraseology for PPL

Hi, I am new to this community and would like to practice working on Phraseology, starting with Taxi’ing. I have read the communication documentation from this site and FAA.

There is lot of documentation and is kinda confusing for novice like me.

What should be a best way to start with like real time? Any recommended airport/location?

I have simulator and software setup already ( think so).

Thank you!

Hi “HSB”,

for this kind of beginner training we recommend starting off at smaller airfields that have local ATC (GND - ground and/or TWR - tower) active and when it is not too busy. Otherwise ATC won’t have time to help you should you be unsure about something.

How can you find current ATC staffing? VATSIM Radar would be one solution: https://vatsim-radar.com/?center=-93.99015,35.38248&zoom=5.47

Also, have charts ready. I guess you know where to find them at FAA etc…

Hello HSB!

Here is a tool that will have you communicating like the guys who fly professionally IRL. Even better than some of the VATSIM ATCs.

Welcome! Best way is to follow along with the terms you already know, and literally hear it spoken. Check out this page, you can listen to general aviation (smaller generally) all the way listening to the captain of an airliner.

I’d pay closer attention to how the airline/corporate guys talk, practice talking like that yourself, do what you’ve been doing and you’ll get it. It’s one of those things that you have to do to sound calm and comfortable on the radio.
