Picking up clearance when there is no ATC

I’m new to VATSIM but have a plenty of real world experience so my question is specifically VATSIM. Who do I call to pick up my IFR clearance when if there is no controller in my sector? For example, If I’m departing SLC for DEN, SLC doesn’t have any controllers working but DEN center is on, who would I call?

Nobody. Use the squawk code given to you by AUTOATC. Take off using CTAF until 10,000 ft, then switch to advisory frequency 122.8, then contact DEN about 15nm before you enter that airspace (unless you get a “please contact me” before then).

Easy enough. How does AUTOATC work? Can’t find anything in the vatsim learning center.

It’s relatively new and experimental. You’ll get an automated message giving you a squawk code which will help ATC if/when they connect or you fly into controlled airspace. Just use the code it gives you.

AUTOATC may also recommend descending to a certain level by a certain waypoint closer to your destination.

Note that AutoATC is a US only feature, you currently won’t see any automatic squawk code assignment or descent suggestion messages anywhere else on the network.

I think it was mentioned also , that starting November it includes Canada and Mexico.

The CTAF trial extends to Mexico and Canada, AutoATC remains a US only feature.

I can confirm that we in Mexico are not using, not are planning to use AutoATC. We only joined the CTAF trial.
