No sound in vPilot

Hello,
Recently, i became unable to listen to ATC anymore. When speaking thru my mike, ATC can hear me, but i can’t hear their feedback.
Is there anything i can do/check?

Rgrds, Eric

Hi Eric,

I actually had this issue last night. Simply check your headphone/headset connection to your PC. Play sounds from another source other than Vpilot. If that works, open up Vpilot and toggle to a new output source then toggle back to your actual output source where you want your ATC sounds to come through. These settings are located in settings box on the top then audio on the left side.

I’m having this issue as well and just cannot get any sound from VPilot no matter what I try, it has nothing to do with my headset as I can hear the sim done and any other audio just nothing from VPilot, one flight was fine, then they next, can’t hear anything, I’ve tried the suggested chnage above, yet nothing has worked

What steps from the vPilot Tips, Tricks, FAQ and Troubleshooting Guide have you already tried, and what were the results?

I’ve tried the trouble shoot steps in the FAQ guide which did not solve it. I have tried chnage the sound source in the VPILOT settings, I’ve tried reinstalling my audio drivers, all other audio works, I can hear my sim fine, I can hear YouTube fine for example but nothing comes through from VPilot

Have you tried allowing the vPilot app through any potential firewalls in Windows and/or your virus program(s)?

I have exactly the same issue with vPilot 3.11.2, I have sound trough my headset from the sim and all other programs. The same headset is also selected in vPilot but no ATC audio coming trough. If I select another source in vPilot like my 3.5mm connected speakers the voice comes trough. Switching back to vPilot and no voice trough headset. Mic works ok. Tried with both admin and non admin rights running vPilot. I have also re-installed vPilot but the issue remains. It seems the software is unable to talk to the audio driver?

EDIT: I did cycle my audio output using the radio panel selector in the aircraft and that seemd to work.

Exactly the same here

Same here, and I realized, on Windows 11, when I plug my headphones, W11 shows headphones connected, whereas on W10 even with headphones connected it would still show speakers, so because of this, that’s the issue in Vpilot, at least for W11 users: in auddio settings, Vpilot doesn’t have the option to select DEFAULT for mic and output device, we can only select a device. So for mic no issue since we plug the mic and forget, but for output there’s the issue since if we start on speakers then plug the headphones afterwards, vpilot would be looking for speakers but W11 switched to headphones so no sounds anymore and vice versa, if we start on headphones then unplug the headphones no sound..BUT if Vpilot allows to select DEFAULT as device in options then switching will be proper, when on speakers we hear Vpilot on speakers and if plugging headphones we’ll hear Vpilot on headphones and back n forth..

I am having this problem now.

  1. I get sound from all other applications.
  2. People can hear me
  3. I can not hear anyone else
  4. This is true for BOTH vPilot (with MSFS 2024) and xPilot (in XP12)
  5. vPilot and xPilot worked fine two days ago
  6. I can here sound effects from vPilot (e.g. someone sends a message). But I cannot hear anyone else talking on the network.

Since then there was a Windows Patch.

Things I have tried.

  1. Rebooting
  2. Running vPilot as admin
  3. Changing input sources and then back again in vPilot
  4. Uninstalling and reinstalling vPilot
  5. Insuring Windows Firewall has rules to let vPilot through
  6. Turning off Windows Firewall!

None of this works.

I think I may have found the fix! For myself this works anyway, so go to your windows settings, system, sound, volume mixer, turn VPILOT volume all the way up

Check mute on task switch is not active too.

That’s a setting in some simulators which only affects sounds generated by the sim itself, such as engine sounds. That setting has no effect on sounds generated by vPilot, such as ATC audio.

I am getting all voice comms through, but no notification sounds for ATC contact me requests or the sounds whenever someone writes text…

I had this same issue today (my first day on VATSIM btw) I flew the Fenix A320 with no issues but if when I tried a second flight with the ifly 737 max 8 I received no audio from VATSIM (sim sounds were audible) but the controller could hear me. I run out of ideas and disconnected. I connected back as an observer using the Fenix this time and I could hear the controller and the ATIS. Reading this thread gave me some ideas on what to try next since it looks like the ifly is somehow blocking VATSIM audio

I am having this issue now and then, sometimes it’s related to routing to the other display (which has HDMI audio - even if I disabled it), sometimes just like that, from a flight to the other it’s suddenly there. First I check the audio settings on vPilot, even if there, I reselect the outputs as desired (mic+headset on the regular soundcard) and Apply, if is not working, I’ll check the audio-mixer (Win11) and recheck the outputs, if nothing there I just disconnect, close vPilot and restart it - usually works! (annoying, though…)

I reinstalled the client and the problem was gone :airplane:
