Is EuroScope User-Friendly Enough Today?

Hello everyone,

About a year ago, I began developing a companion tool for EuroScope called ToolScope. Its purpose was to make managing and updating sector files as a EuroScope user and packages from aeronav seamless by running alongside EuroScope and offering automatic update checks and one-click downloads.

For example, it checks whether a package from aero nav has been updated since installing the last version of the package and if yes, it notifies the user and allows him to update the package.

Now, a year later, I’ve started rewriting ToolScope from the ground up with a cleaner codebase and a much more polished user interface. The new version will also simplify configuration, making it easier to adjust settings directly within the tool.

That said, I’m now asking myself:

Is a tool like this still necessary in today’s EuroScope environment?
Or has EuroScope improved enough in terms of usability and convenience that a helper tool is no longer needed?

If you believe there’s still room for improvement, I’d love to hear your thoughts. What features or improvements do you think could enhance the overall EuroScope experience?

You can find more details about the project on GitHub:

I’d really appreciate any feedback, ideas, or suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I’ll take a good look later this week. But as a sector developer I can tell you, there’s definitely room for tools like this.

My division uses GNG but we don’t use their update method (seems a little bit limiting to us), I’ll shoot you a DM after I had time to look at it. It may very well be a great toolf or us.

This sounds great. It motivates me a lot hearing this. Feel free to DM me any ideas what you would like to see in an EuroScope helper tool.

Edit: Feel free to suggest all kind of things. Please do not limit it to the features I currently have or plan. It can go in an direction as long as you think it would really help you and others.

I‘m free to expand my program to all kind of purposes. Creating sector files, whatsoever. I just need some input. It would be great if toolscope would be a assistant for Euroscope users and creators.

Hi Martin. I sent you a DM. Thanks!

Hi! As a sector file developer myself, I also feel that there is a need for this. We also utilise GNG, but not the auto installer in our division.

Do you think you could maybe expand the usage to include updates for TopSky / GroundRadar files directly from GitHub? ( I mean that the program doesn’t update the entire sector file pack, but rather only the TopSky and GroundRadar folders, which are hosted on GitHub?) It would be awesome if we could have our sector’s TopSky and GroundRadar files automatically updated, rather than having to create multiple new release on GNG throughout the AIRAC cycle, for bug fixed or NOTAM implementations etc?

Regards,
George

Thank you for your feedback.

Yes, of course it is extendable. Do you need an account or subscription for these? Afaik you don’t but I’m not sure.

I’ve recently dove into the whole sector file development (or rather actually changing excisiting ones). Now I’ve figured out quite a bit how EuroScope, the profiles and the sectors are build up and intertwine. But I’m wondering is there any solid documentation or tutorials that I might have missed along the way?

Will definitely also look into ToolScope as this sounds like its completing a lot of my question on how to important data into a sectorfile or update it. Thanks!

There is no documentation of ToolScope currently, as this is more of a prototype than a ready first version. I was not expecting that the program actually might be useful across multiple countries and not only Germany.

And as far as information or tutorials about sector files and their development?

Hi Martin, apologies for only responding now! I have been on vacation…

Great stuff! Nope, you don’t need a GotHub account to just view files in public repositories, if thats what you are referring to?

ToolScope still sounds highly valuable, especially for users managing frequent package updates. EuroScope has improved, but a streamlined tool for auto-checks and one-click updates remains a real convenience. A cleaner UI and easier configuration would definitely enhance usability—looking forward to the revamped version!
