How to determine the distance between the airport and runway in miles?

In an A320, how can I determine the distance to the runway or the airport? Considering that VATSIM pilots, or maybe in the real world, use the phrase “5 miles at or an airport/runway term” when they are set to report to land inbound on a runway or waypoint.

On the Airbus you select the PROG-page. On there you can insert the code of an airport, navaid or waypoint:

I really appreciate it, Bro at this point I’m still learning as a newbie.

No problem. I strongly encourage you to work through some Airbus tutorial videos, there should be quite a few out there. The website of FlyByWire holds a lot of information about workflows etc.!

Also note that most modern arports show DME distance on flight display as long as ILS is tuned

If there is a VOR/DME at the airport, you can also tune that frequency on NAV2 to get the approximate distance to the airport. I assume you will have the ILS frequency tuned on NAV1.

A common practice is entering the threshold of the runway you want to land on.

You use the PROG page for this and enter the airport’s ICAO code followed by the RWY number. Remember the threshold can be miles away from the VORDME or even the airport reference point.

For example Zurich RWY34 you will enter LSZH34 in the TO [ ] line.
