Starting November 1st, the Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) Trial will expand to include VATCAN, VATCAR, and VATMEX! This trial will support non-towered and pilot-controlled airports across Canada, the Caribbean, and Mexico, allowing pilots to coordinate for safe aircraft separation in uncontrolled airspace.
What is CTAF?
Common Traffic Advisory Frequencies (CTAF) are used at airports without an operating control tower. Through CTAF, pilots can communicate their positions and intentions directly with one another, ensuring safe operations and mutual awareness. When a part-time tower closes, the airport reverts to using CTAF, allowing pilots to manage separation independently.
