Controlled airport and uncontrolled airport in controlled airspace

How do I go about flying between:

  • Controlled airport to uncontrolled airport
  • Uncontrolled airport to Controlled airport
  • Uncontrolled airport to Uncontrolled airport

In vatsim?

  1. Determine if an overlying or local controller is online for your airport or position using your aircraft’s location and the VATSIM Radar and your pilot client’s online controller list.

  2. Reference your airport’s aeronautical charts as they often have overlying ATC facility names and information regarding what facility covers the airport. See if any online controllers match any of the online ATC positions. Communication information worldwide is available on the SkyVector World Airport Database under the airport’s “Airport Communication” section.

If you have tried the these methods above and are still not sure, ask the controller in question if they provide services to your airport or airspace!

Depends on your flight rules.

IFR - ATC seperation services provided from departure airport to departure of controlled airspace, then reverts to traffic information services, untill landing, 2 way communications required.
VFR - ATC seperation services from departure airport to departue of controlled airspace, then no services from then on.

Reverse of the above.
IFR - Traffic services provided from uncontrolled airport about other IFR and known VFR, aircraft requires permission to enter controlled airspace approximatly 5nm from the boundary laterally, or provided on departure if entering controlled airspace vertically. 2 way communications required.
VFR - Depart uncontrolled field at own discression, no services provided by ATC, upon reaching controlled airspace, request clearance to enter from the controller approx 5nm prior to the boundary stating intentions, from then on full ATC seperation services provided class C and D airspace.

IFR - Traffic information services provided to IFR aircrfat about other IFR aircraft and known VFR aircraft for duration of the flight, no seperation services provided, 2 way communications required.
VFR - No services provided by ATC unless requested, no communication with ATC required.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I will be using this!
