Canadian Xpress May 2023 Monthly Challenge - Dangerous Airports Revisited I

CXA_May_2023_Challenge

Ten years ago, we started the Dangerous Airports series of challenges where we flew 21 different routes into airports that require more than just your average pilot skill. Most people would not want to be a passenger, let alone a pilot in command for some of these airports, having to weave and twist tens of thousands of pounds of flying aluminum around mountains into valleys, with winds and weather bouncing the aircraft.

Over the next few months, we are going to revisit the most popular of those airports from the past. Over the last 10 years our simulators have greatly improved on the level of realism they provide, allowing aircraft and scenery developers to take things to the next level. Along with that, some of these older events are just downright fun.

This month, we revisit our March of 2016 challenge and return to Toncontin Airport in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, where aircraft must skirt around the mountains of the interior highlands to land in a valley 3,294 feet above sea level. On approach, airliners as big as Boeing 757s make a 45-degree bank to effectively reach the 7,000-foot runway with well above average rates of descent. Winds require pilots to compensate while hustling their aircraft in a zig-zag path over the terrain.

Your mission is to depart from Owen Roberts (MWCR) and fly to Toncontin (MHTG) with the Canadian Xpress freeware or payware Airbus A32* or Boeing 73* aircraft.

*Any variant.
