Arabian vACC Director of Technical Department – ACCARB7


Position Duties

The role of the Arabian vACC Technical Department Director entails overseeing the development, deployment, and maintenance of all vACC technical systems, ensuring they remain secure, efficient, and user-friendly.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining the vACC’s web infrastructure and online services.
  • Managing and administering the vACC Moodle training platform.
  • Developing, deploying, and maintaining Discord bots and automation tools for the vACC.
  • Creating and maintaining web-based applications and tools to support ATC operations, events, and member engagement.
  • Overseeing database management and ensuring data integrity.
  • Implementing cybersecurity best practices to protect vACC systems and member data specifically GDPR.
  • Hiring, mentoring, and managing a team of developers and technical staff within the department.
  • Coordinating with other vACC departments to provide technical solutions to operational needs.
  • Maintaining version control and documentation of all technical projects.
  • Planning and executing future technology upgrades to keep the vACC at the forefront of innovation.
  • Ensuring cross-platform compatibility and mobile responsiveness of vACC tools.
  • Troubleshooting technical issues and providing prompt resolutions.
  • Liaising with VATSIM regional/divisional technical teams to ensure integration and compliance with network standards.

Minimum Requirements:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must meet the following criteria:

  • Membership in VATSIM Middle East and North Africa Division & Arabian vACC, or willing to transfer if selected.
  • Hold a minimum rating of Student 1 (S1) or Private Pilot License (P1).
  • Experience in Programming & Project Development
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, in English.
  • Active and in good standing with VATSIM.
  • Availability to dedicate a minimum of 4-6 hours per week.
  • Able to commit to the position for a minimum term of 12 months.

The Ideal Candidate Should:

  • Demonstrate a strong drive to develop innovative and impactful projects that support the vACC’s staff and members.
  • Possess prior leadership experience, either within VATSIM or in an external organization.
  • Have substantial technical experience, whether gained inside or outside the VATSIM network.
  • Be capable of managing and overseeing multiple development projects simultaneously.
  • Be proficient in delivering full-stack development projects from start to finish.
  • Be skilled in creating web applications and developing Discord bots.

Preferred Technical Skills & Languages

  • Web Development: HTML, CSS, JavaScript (including frameworks such as React or Vue.js).
  • Backend Development: PHP, Python, Node.js.
  • Database Management: MySQL, PostgreSQL.
  • Automation & Bots: JavaScript/TypeScript for Discord bots, Python scripting.
  • Version Control: Git/GitHub.
  • System Administration: Linux server management.
  • Other Desirable Skills: API integration, UI/UX design, Moodle theme/plugin customization.
