[solved]VPilot: error 10053

After updating vpilot it keeps disconnecting over and over again. Tried reinstalling on c/vpilot, and made sure firewall is letting vpilot trough, but still disconnected 3 times while on ground. First disconnect was shortly after tuning to active freq.
Been looking forward to many flights during the hollidays, but no…
Any tips on how to search for solution or finding the real problem aprechiated.

I made a Port Forward exeption on my router and managed to perform a 1 hour flight with only 1 disconnect. The disconnet happened mid approach to ENGM with some chatter on unicom, ca. 6-7 aircraft in close airspace.
I also run vpilot as admin and have manually made exeptions in firewall, but that did nothing on it’s own.
In betwen i also made a reset of router. That did nothing for my issue.
I run two networks on this pc, one for internet and one for internal cockpit software… just to mention it.
Internet line is a cabled 750/750. Relly fast with no problems other than this vPilot snag.
Port forward seems to help, but since I had one disconnect, it is not a perfect solution.

Todays flight cements my use of vPilot as-is. With all the disconnects I experience, the software have become useless.
@887155 I hope you can assist in finding out why the software is acting this way, after all these years without problems. I understand that this is not somethinng that affect all users, but I guess the aircraft in front of me on final EKCH04L tonight also experienced a disconnect on final app. Same happened to me when I reached more or less the same spot.
The change in code in this release is killing my hobby.
I’ll be at service if there is any way I can help to pinpoint whats actually happening, but I basically only have vpilot log without assistance.

You sound certain that it’s something in the current vPilot release that is causing your network connection issues. How do you know that to be the case?

I ask because this is the Changelog for 3.11.5:

vPilot - 3.11.5 - Released 2025-12-13

Nothing changed in how the network connection works.

From Windows Event Viewer. Data from one of the crashes, 4 entries within 2 seconds. Norwegian language, but I guess you can get the main info anyhow :

Before you were posting about network connection issues, now you are posting data about “one of the crashes”. You didn’t say anything about crashes previously. I am confused as to what the actual issue is and what the symptoms are.

Hi Ross and thanks for reply.
All errors seems to me to have the same cause. I have to assume this since patterns is the same. I could paste in all the data from EventViewer, but only the time stamps would differ.

I see NetFramework beeing mentioned in the error log, and searching for a solution last week I also tried reinstalling NetFramework versions, but installer reply that this software is already installed.

Also bare in mind that this is not my line of work, you are the expert here. I simply cannot use the software as it constantly disconnects with the message 10053, and I have done all I can regarding to my knowledge to make sure your software have free access to internet with exeptions to the .exe and to port 8809 in firewall, windows security and in router.

In order to help you help me, you could give some pointers to wich logs are needed to try to pinpoint whats happening, or not happening, that cause to disconnects.
Is there something on the server side that could give any pointers? Even though this other guy in the next post have disconnects with error 10060, the pattern seems to be the same with obligatory disconnect on approach or short final.
I have no problem with FPS as discussed there, and FPS shoul’nt ever be an issue for this anyway.

At first, you posted about disconnects. Then you posted about vPilot crashing due to a FileNotFound error. These are two very different things. What makes you think they have the same cause? Does vPilot crash every time you disconnect? That does not seem to be the case according to the logs you posted. The logs show the disconnect happening, followed by a reconnect, which means vPilot did not crash after the disconnect.

Please explain the symptoms in detail. Describe when the crash happens in relation to when the disconnect happens. Only then can I have any idea what to suggest.

Aha… I see. My bad.
These logs must be related to me trying to start vPilot via a remaining shortcut after a reinstall. I tried uninstalling from Windows control panel, but the shortcut remained on the desktop.

I will try to set up a log for the software and go into a typical scenario where the disconnets happen to try to get better and consistant logs for the issue.
The typical scenario is contacting controller on an active freq. before flight, then shortly after departure, when changing controller enroute and more or less always on approach.
Ill look for controlled airspace somewhere for a short flight in/out of this, and do a short flight in uncontrolled airspace as it also happens on approach on unicom.
I will also try to log the internet access simultaneously to look for hidden drop in internet access if this can be an issue. I have had no issues or indications of dropouts earlier, but I want to roule that out… or discover a big surprice.
I’ll report when I get around to do this test, most likely next year

Big surprise. My onboard network controller from Intel had some mishapps in the log. This driver is not included in windows update, but when i searced for «e2fnexpress» and «Intel i226» it gave useful results.
Turn out Intel chipset 790 with onboard controller have many reports similar to mine.
Updated driver, but havent time to test this evening. Happy new year

Sounds like it has nothing to do with what phase of flight you’re on, so I wouldn’t try to identify any particular phase that is most problematic. Sounds like simple intermittent network issues, could be caused by something on your computer (like you mentioned the network driver), something in your home internet gear (router, modem, cabling) or an issue anywhere in between you and the VATSIM server.

True true. Never had any other programs reacting with any type of messages indicating broken connection, not even msfs that use online data, so this was indeed a big surprise.
There was a pattern though, but it cuould ofcourse be coinsidence.
Looking forward to try it out one of the coming days.
Happy new year

It’s possible that those other programs automatically recover from a lost connection without you noticing.

Probably. If anything, i hope this post can give a hint to others with tha same chipset

two last things to do for those who should encounter this later on…

  1. In the network adapter properties, you have to uncheck “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”.
  2. Under properties/Advanced for your network adapter in Device manager, make sure to disable “Energy-efficient-ethernet”.

Are you saying these changes fixed the issue for you?

Hi Ross. It seems to work for me now. Did two flights yesterday, and on the first out of EDDF i had a disconnect imideatly after takeoff. I reconnected and stayed online until parked at EKCH. I then did more searching online and came over these two tips. Later made a full ATC covered flight from EDDH-EDDF and had no disconnects at all. This is the first flight without any issues since problem started👍.
I installed a Chrome addon that monitor network connection, latency etc. and it reported 5/5 network the whole day exept this one disconnect mentioned.
I hope driverupdate and the energy saving options have done the trick, but I read on different forums and support pages that it is no guarantee.
At least I know where my problem lies, and next step will be a USB->LAN adaptor if it persist.
