Hi. I am new on VATSIM, but have plenty of experience from IVAO. I switched to VATSIM generally because of better ATC coverage and more professional ATCs imo.
However, in my only 20 hours of flying on VATSIM, i have encountered several (>5) incidents and a few accidents, in uncontrolled airspace.
These typically relates to two things:
Lack of communication on UNICOM.
Not choosing appropriate runway for landing/takeoff, in relation to the wind.
Some examples:
Yesterday i was literally jump scared, because i hit someone head on, on the runway while landing, because that pilot failed to communicate and landed in a 10-15 knots tailwind .
And today at LOWI, i saw a A350-900 landing in 10 knots tailwind, completely overshooting the runway . 5-10 minutes later, same flight, just before i started push back, another guy was about to land in tailwind (he aborted because of landing traffic coming head on the CORRECT way).
I could mention several other experiences…
So my question is, in regards to rule B5, B8(b), B8(a) and B13 in the code of conduct, what would happen if i start reporting whenever this happens?
To be clear, i am not looking into anyone getting punished, i am not an *sshole . I am simply wondering if supervisors are gonna spend time to let the reported pilot know, that they should follow said rules, more as like a “lesson”.
It is obviously funny as well when these accidents/incidents happen, it is only a game after all. But i am on these networks 100% because of the added immersion and realism, which is why i can feel that it starts to bother me a little bit.
If you have any incident involving another connection, you can send a report via the network. E.g. “.wallop ABC123 at KMSP not on Unicom and collided with me”
That will go to the system and any supervisor online will deal with it by commencing an cursory investigation.
NOTE: Weather is not mandated as a constant on VATSIM. So there are times when another pilot will be experiencing different weather conditions to you. Your weather environment isnt trumps.
UNICOM in some areas is the CTAF not 122.800. In my experience there are a lot of pilots who still use 122.800 rather than the CTAF. If at all possible I monitor the CTAF and 122.800 to avoid conflict.
Unfortunatlly, VATSIM’s position on this isnt that great.
From the COC
VATSIM does not care to engage in the constant policing of its account holders. If a problem should arise online between two or more account holders which cannot be resolved by the parties in a quick manner or if it affects the enjoyment of VATSIM by other account holders or could hinder the operation of the network, the parties involved should check to see if a Supervisor or an Administrator is online to help resolve the matter.
If you go here VATSIM Support to report an event you are also met with this statement.
VATSIM does not have interest in policing petty matters on the network. Issues that are minor violations or personal in nature, should not be reported via this ticketing system. Reports should not be made unless evidence is available & provided to support the allegations.
Basiclly some one has to be really bad before they take any intrest in it.
