Some people are afraid to get on Vatsim because in most cases, it feels too real and perhaps it keeps some of you away. Please don’t be. You can come in as an observer, take your time with getting to practice with a live human being. It’s okay if you are slow to respond or if words don’t come out the way you want it. We’re all learning. However, one thing one shouldn’t do is show up not knowing how to fly an approach if you are filing IFR. It’s as bad as you not knowing your SIM to take off, to land, to make turns, etc. I had a chance to observe the frustration this one individual caused. Not answering repeated calls, not knowing how to enter an approach into the SIM, not even understanding what he was being told. This controller had his hands full to begin with and had to deal with this person who rather than disconnecting kept trying to learn on the spot (and couldn’t). Rant over.
