I agree with this, plus it makes it much more easier to people that would log on as approach or center. This makes it much easier, this also ensures that you are not at like 3000’ 20 miles out of the airport.
But I also agree with John, where if you don’t want to deal with AutoATC, fly offline, or fly somewhere else, not in the USA. We have to keep in mind that this is also a trial, as Kirk said, but at the same time, it’s only in the USA, same as CTAF.
So, if you don’t want AUTO ATC, which basically just helps you out and the controller that MIGHT log on, fly offline or fly somewhere else, not in USA, anywhere except USA.
Not all of us “old CID’s” hate new stuff. I happen to like all the changes. Especially when they try them out as a beta for our feedback.
Besides - the network doesn’t belong to those who have been here longest, so might as well go with the flow.
So I have an idea about auto-ATC. I think it should actually be developed more, but not to the point of taking the fun out of the hobby. Here’s why.
We are in a time in history where selfishness and “me first” is running rampant in all aspect of life. And unfortunately, that also means VATSIM.
What I would like to see auto ATC evolve into, would be an AI based system, that would become mandatory to follow, and I’ll break it down real quick
Busy airports. It would be nice to have a system when no controllers online that could calculate who’s arriving when, and give guidance i.e. NKS1070 traffic arriving ahead of you slow to 220kts for spacing" or something like that to mitigate multiple people arriving on top of one another. (in theory) this would reduce the “me first” mentality by having a system that does the deciding for us rather than “me first me first”. NO this idea isn’t perfect but again it’s a brainstorm.
I think this might makes controllers and pilots happier by when a controller logs on, the auto ATC can tell the controller who’s doing what, and that help both a) the controller knowing who’s been told/doing waht, and b) it will help the pilot by not suddenly having a controller logging on and giving you a completely new set of directions to follow when you’re 10nm out from IAF
I have other ideas but this is going to turn into a TLDR (if it didn’t already lol) but again, this is just a brainstorm
